Some percentage of psoriasis patients also have psoriasis of the nails. In reality 10-55 percent of those with psoriasis also provide toe nail psoriasis and only about 5 percent of all patients with nail psoriasis are free of psoriasis of the skin. Nail psoriasis is not contagious and is a hereditary condition relating to the skin area, joints and nails. Persons can be prone to psoriasis because of family history or over to seventy-five percent of youngsters who have both parents with psoriasis will get psoriasis, too. Doctors have to treat both the infection and the psoriasis in an attempt to change the appearance of the fingernail.

Small black lines can run from the top to the lower side of the nail credited to dilated capillaries under the nail itself that show up as dark lines. There is no treatment for nail psoriasis but there are treatments that can associated with area look better. An antifungal oral or cream-based remedies can be used to treat underlying fungal attacks. You should trim your nails back short — down to the point where the skin is attached to the menu. Be very gentle with your trimming, though, as being too rough on your nails could make them get worse.

Nail psoriasis can be treated clinically or surgically. Your doctor can prescribe an anabolic steroid cream to put on and round the area to reduce inflammation. Topical ointment vitamin A or calciferol analogues can even be used on the nails themselves. Doctors can inject steroid medication beneath the nail itself, which works but can be very painful. Mild remedy works for toe nail psoriasis using PUVA or UVB light. If you have psoriatic arthritis as well, a doctor can use systemic treatment with biologics or methotrexate in order to skin psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and nail psoriasis as well.

If the fingernails or toenails are really uncontrollable, the doctor can chemically take them off by making use of an ointment that dissolves the nails within several days with no hemorrhage and minimal pain. An additional approach to removal of the nails is to operatively remove the nails under anesthesia.
